How Arizona jails are organized

Each county in Arizona runs its own jail, and each has its own page here. Phoenix is Maricopa County — Fourth Avenue Jail and Lower Buckeye are the names families actually search. Tucson is Pima County. Mesa, Chandler, Scottsdale, and Glendale are still Maricopa, not their own county jails. Flagstaff is Coconino. Yuma is Yuma County on the border. Phoenix is the state capital, but arrests are booked in the county where they happen.

Arizona county jails are sheriff-run. ADC (Eyman, Lewis, Perryville) is the sentenced prison system. A Phoenix Police booking overnight is not the Maricopa roster until the sheriff takes custody. This site currently has live roster pages for 4 of 15 counties (4 jail pages, 389 records tracked). The other 11 counties have a jail information page with lookup steps and contacts; until a roster feed is connected, the sheriff or detention center is the official source for who is in custody there.

Bond, visits and money in Arizona

Arizona uses appearance bonds and secured bonds. Maricopa’s volume means professional bondsmen who know that jail. Initial appearance is fast; the roster can lag an hour behind the courtroom. Bond amounts shown on a roster can change after the first court appearance. CurrentPrisonList does not post bail or accept payments.

Maricopa uses scheduled and video visits at named complexes. Pima has its own rules. Do not bring a California visiting form to Fourth Avenue. Heat and parking are visit-planning facts in Phoenix. Dress codes, video-visit providers and appointment times are set by each jail. Check the sheriff's website on the day of the visit.

Travel and common mistakes in Arizona

PHX serves Maricopa. TUS serves Pima. The I-10 run from Phoenix to Tucson is a different county. Fourth Avenue is downtown logistics, not Sky Harbor’s rental-car center. Take the jail address from the sheriff's website or from the contact section of the county page, not from a generic map search.

A common mistake: calling it “Phoenix jail” when the person is in Pinal County (Florence area) after a transfer, or mixing ADC Lewis with the county jail. Neighboring states have their own state pages on this site.
