How Connecticut jails are organized
Each judicial district in Connecticut runs its own jail, and each has its own page here. Connecticut abolished county government. Families still search Hartford, New Haven, Bridgeport, Stamford, Waterbury, and New London — those names are cities and judicial districts, not sheriff-run county jails on a Midwestern model. The lockups are Department of Correction facilities (Hartford CC, New Haven CC, Bridgeport CC, York CI for women). Hartford is the state capital, but arrests are booked in the judicial district where they happen.
DOC runs jails and prisons together. There is no independent county sheriff jail map like Ohio. Municipal police lockups are overnight holding, not the roster we mean by a Connecticut inmate search. This site does not yet have a live roster feed for Connecticut. The eight historical counties (state-run lockups) still exist; the sheriff or detention center is the official source until a page is added.
Finding someone in a Connecticut jail
CT DOC publishes inmate information tools that are statewide, not county HTML tables. This site’s Connecticut pages follow that reality. Do not expect 169 town-by-town booking logs. If you know the judicial district, open its roster above and search by name or charge. If you only know the city of arrest, find which judicial district the city is in first.
Superior Court sits in judicial districts (Hartford, New Haven, Fairfield, etc.). A Bridgeport arraignment can still mean Hartford CC after classification. GA (geographical area) courts handle many misdemeanors. The courthouse and the jail are often in different buildings. Confirm the facility name on the booking paperwork or with the attorney before you travel.
Bond, visits and money in Connecticut
A bondsman or cash bond posts to the court and DOC. Town police cannot always accept a full county-style window bond. Follow the facility named after arraignment. Bond amounts shown on a roster can change after the first court appearance. CurrentPrisonList does not post bail or accept payments.
DOC visit rules are facility-specific (Hartford CC vs York). Video and in-person mix. A New York visiting habit does not open a Connecticut CI. Dress codes, video-visit providers and appointment times are set by each jail. Check the sheriff's website on the day of the visit.
Travel and common mistakes in Connecticut
BDL (Bradley) for Hartford. HVN for New Haven. NYC airports look close on a map and still leave I-95. Bridgeport is not Stamford’s door. Take the jail address from the sheriff's website or from the contact section of the judicial district page, not from a generic map search.
A common mistake: searching “Fairfield County jail roster” as if Connecticut still ran county sheriffs. The county name is geography. DOC is the custodian. Neighboring states have their own state pages on this site.
