How Georgia jails are organized
Each county in Georgia runs its own jail, and each has its own page here. Atlanta’s core is Fulton; the east side is DeKalb; the north is Cobb; the northeast is Gwinnett; the south is Clayton. Those five sheriffs are not one “Atlanta jail.” Savannah is Chatham. Augusta is Richmond. Columbus is Muscogee. Macon is Bibb. Athens is Clarke. Atlanta is the state capital, but arrests are booked in the county where they happen.
Georgia county jails are sheriff-run. Some small counties hold people in a neighbor’s jail. GDC (state prisons) is not a county roster. Atlanta City Detention is not Fulton County Jail. This site currently has live roster pages for 28 of 159 counties (29 jail pages, 17,937 records tracked). The other 131 counties have a jail information page with lookup steps and contacts; until a roster feed is connected, the sheriff or detention center is the official source for who is in custody there.
Finding someone in a Georgia jail
Fulton and other metros have inmate searches; rural counties may be phone-and-PDF country. 159 counties means this grid is large and the gaps are real. If you know the county, open its roster above and search by name or charge. If you only know the city of arrest, find which county the city is in first.
Superior Court is the felony court, organized by judicial circuits that often join several counties. A Fulton indictment is not a Gwinnett case. Municipal courts in Atlanta handle city ordinances, not the county jail visit list. The courthouse and the jail are often in different buildings. Confirm the facility name on the booking paperwork or with the attorney before you travel.
Bond, visits and money in Georgia
Georgia uses professional bondsmen heavily. A Cobb bondsman may not post Fulton. First appearance practice varies by county size. Roster bond figures can lag the judge. Bond amounts shown on a roster can change after the first court appearance. CurrentPrisonList does not post bail or accept payments.
Fulton, DeKalb, Cobb, and Gwinnett each run separate visit systems. Do not copy one metro jail’s video app onto another. I-285 does not unify the rules. Dress codes, video-visit providers and appointment times are set by each jail. Check the sheriff's website on the day of the visit.
Travel and common mistakes in Georgia
ATL is in Clayton County’s orbit and still leaves a Fulton or DeKalb last mile. SAV, AGS, and CSG serve other metros. Downtown Atlanta is not the South Fulton jail campus. Take the jail address from the sheriff's website or from the contact section of the county page, not from a generic map search.
A common mistake: searching “Atlanta inmate” as one roster, or confusing Fulton County Jail with Atlanta City Detention or with GDC Phillips State Prison. Neighboring states have their own state pages on this site.
