How Idaho jails are organized
Each county in Idaho runs its own jail, and each has its own page here. Boise is Ada County. Nampa and Caldwell are Canyon County — the valley’s second sheriff, not Ada. Coeur d’Alene is Kootenai. Idaho Falls is Bonneville. Pocatello is Bannock. Twin Falls is Twin Falls County. Moscow and Lewiston are the Palouse and the Clearwater, different counties. Boise is the state capital, but arrests are booked in the county where they happen.
Sheriffs run county jails. IDOC (Idaho State Correctional Institution and others) is sentenced prison. A Boise Police booking is not Ada’s roster until the county books them. This site currently has live roster pages for 3 of 44 counties (3 jail pages, 818 records tracked). The other 41 counties have a jail information page with lookup steps and contacts; until a roster feed is connected, the sheriff or detention center is the official source for who is in custody there.
Finding someone in an Idaho jail
Treasure Valley counties often have vendor portals. Rural central and eastern counties may be thinner. There is no single statewide jail roster. If you know the county, open its roster above and search by name or charge. If you only know the city of arrest, find which county the city is in first.
District and magistrate courts sit in judicial districts. Ada’s Boise courts are not Kootenai’s Coeur d’Alene docket. Washington State’s Spokane courts are another state entirely. The courthouse and the jail are often in different buildings. Confirm the facility name on the booking paperwork or with the attorney before you travel.
Bond, visits and money in Idaho
Bond schedules exist in busier counties. A Canyon County bondsman is not automatically Ada. Winter roads in the mountains delay people posting in person. Bond amounts shown on a roster can change after the first court appearance. CurrentPrisonList does not post bail or accept payments.
Ada and Canyon are close on I-84 and still different doors. North Idaho visits are Spokane-airport logistics. Do not mix IDOC with the county jail. Dress codes, video-visit providers and appointment times are set by each jail. Check the sheriff's website on the day of the visit.
Travel and common mistakes in Idaho
BOI for Ada and Canyon. Coeur d’Alene traffic often flies into GEG (Spokane, Washington). Idaho Falls has IDA. The Oregon border at Ontario does not make it an Oregon roster. Take the jail address from the sheriff's website or from the contact section of the county page, not from a generic map search.
A common mistake: calling Ada County about a Nampa arrest (Canyon), or treating a Washington jail in Spokane as Kootenai County. Neighboring states have their own state pages on this site.
