How Mississippi jails are organized
Each county in Mississippi runs its own jail, and each has its own page here. Jackson is Hinds County. The coast is Harrison (Gulfport-Biloxi) and Jackson County (Pascagoula) — that Jackson County is not Hinds. DeSoto County is the Memphis suburb (Southaven). Tupelo is Lee. Hattiesburg is Forrest. Those are different sheriffs. Jackson is the state capital, but arrests are booked in the county where they happen.
County jails are sheriff-run. MDOC (Central Mississippi Correctional, Parchman) is prison. Regional facilities exist. A Gulfport PD lockup is not Harrison County’s published roster until booked. This site currently has live roster pages for 9 of 82 counties (9 jail pages, 1,441 records tracked). The other 73 counties have a jail information page with lookup steps and contacts; until a roster feed is connected, the sheriff or detention center is the official source for who is in custody there.
Finding someone in a Mississippi jail
Coverage is uneven across 82 counties. Coast and DeSoto tend to have vendor pages. The Delta may be thinner. No statewide merge. If you know the county, open its roster above and search by name or charge. If you only know the city of arrest, find which county the city is in first.
Circuit court is the felony court. Hinds’ Jackson courts are not DeSoto’s. A Memphis, Tennessee arrest is another state even when the family lives in Southaven. The courthouse and the jail are often in different buildings. Confirm the facility name on the booking paperwork or with the attorney before you travel.
Bond, visits and money in Mississippi
Mississippi surety bondsmen work locally. A Shelby County, Tennessee bondsman does not cover DeSoto automatically. First appearance follows county practice. Bond amounts shown on a roster can change after the first court appearance. CurrentPrisonList does not post bail or accept payments.
Hinds is not Harrison. Parchman is MDOC, not a county visit. Coast casinos are not the jail campus. Dress codes, video-visit providers and appointment times are set by each jail. Check the sheriff's website on the day of the visit.
Travel and common mistakes in Mississippi
JAN for Hinds. GPT for the coast. MEM is a Tennessee airport that serves DeSoto families — the roster may still be Mississippi. Do not mix them. Take the jail address from the sheriff's website or from the contact section of the county page, not from a generic map search.
A common mistake: confusing Jackson County (Pascagoula) with Jackson the capital (Hinds), or treating a Memphis booking as DeSoto County. Neighboring states have their own state pages on this site.
