How Nebraska jails are organized
Each county in Nebraska runs its own jail, and each has its own page here. Omaha is Douglas County. Bellevue and Papillion are Sarpy. Lincoln is Lancaster. Grand Island is Hall. These four dominate searches. Scottsbluff is the panhandle, a different day. Lincoln is the state capital, but arrests are booked in the county where they happen.
Sheriffs and some departments of corrections at the county level run jails. NDCS (Diagnostic & Evaluation, Tecumseh, NSP) is prison. Omaha Police holding is not the Douglas County roster. This site currently has live roster pages for 5 of 93 counties (5 jail pages, 596 records tracked). The other 88 counties have a jail information page with lookup steps and contacts; until a roster feed is connected, the sheriff or detention center is the official source for who is in custody there.
Finding someone in a Nebraska jail
Douglas, Lancaster, and Sarpy publish inmate information. The Sandhills counties are small. Iowa’s Pottawattamie (Council Bluffs) is not Douglas. If you know the county, open its roster above and search by name or charge. If you only know the city of arrest, find which county the city is in first.
District and county courts sit locally. Douglas County Courthouse in Omaha is not Lancaster’s. A Council Bluffs, Iowa case is another state. The courthouse and the jail are often in different buildings. Confirm the facility name on the booking paperwork or with the attorney before you travel.
Bond, visits and money in Nebraska
Nebraska and Iowa bondsmen are not interchangeable at the river. Post in the state that holds the person. Douglas has a high-volume window. Bond amounts shown on a roster can change after the first court appearance. CurrentPrisonList does not post bail or accept payments.
Douglas County Corrections is not Sarpy. Lincoln’s jail is a capital-city drive from Omaha, not a suburb. Tecumseh is NDCS. Dress codes, video-visit providers and appointment times are set by each jail. Check the sheriff's website on the day of the visit.
Travel and common mistakes in Nebraska
OMA sits in the Omaha metro and still requires a county check (Douglas vs Sarpy vs Pottawattamie, Iowa). LNK for Lancaster. I-80 does not merge them. Take the jail address from the sheriff's website or from the contact section of the county page, not from a generic map search.
A common mistake: mixing Omaha’s Douglas County with Council Bluffs, Iowa, or assuming a Lincoln arrest is housed in Omaha. Neighboring states have their own state pages on this site.
