How Oregon jails are organized

Each county in Oregon runs its own jail, and each has its own page here. Portland is Multnomah County. The west suburbs are Washington County (Hillsboro). The south suburbs are Clackamas. Those three are the metro split. Salem is Marion (and a slice of Polk). Eugene is Lane. Medford is Jackson. Bend is Deschutes. Salem is the state capital, but arrests are booked in the county where they happen.

Sheriffs run county jails. ODOC (Coffee Creek, Two Rivers, Snake River) is prison. Portland Police holdovers are not the Multnomah roster. This site currently has live roster pages for 6 of 36 counties (6 jail pages, 2,024 records tracked). The other 30 counties have a jail information page with lookup steps and contacts; until a roster feed is connected, the sheriff or detention center is the official source for who is in custody there.

Bond, visits and money in Oregon

Oregon’s security-release practice is not identical to Washington state’s. A Clark County, Washington bondsman does not cover Multnomah automatically. Bond amounts shown on a roster can change after the first court appearance. CurrentPrisonList does not post bail or accept payments.

The Justice Center / Inverness split in Multnomah is a Portland-specific trap. Washington County’s Hillsboro jail is not downtown. Coffee Creek is ODOC women’s reception, not the county jail. Dress codes, video-visit providers and appointment times are set by each jail. Check the sheriff's website on the day of the visit.

Travel and common mistakes in Oregon

PDX sits in Multnomah and still leaves a Washington or Clackamas last mile. EUG, MFR, and RDM serve other metros. Vancouver, Washington is Clark County, Washington. Take the jail address from the sheriff's website or from the contact section of the county page, not from a generic map search.

A common mistake: mixing Multnomah with Clark County, Washington, or treating Washington County, Oregon as the State of Washington. Neighboring states have their own state pages on this site.
