How Pennsylvania jails are organized
Each county in Pennsylvania runs its own jail, and each has its own page here. Philadelphia is its own city-county jail system (PDP). Pittsburgh is Allegheny County. The Philadelphia collar is Montgomery, Bucks, Delaware, and Chester — four sheriffs. Harrisburg is Dauphin. Allentown is Lehigh. Reading is Berks. Scranton is Lackawanna. Erie is Erie County. Harrisburg is the state capital, but arrests are booked in the county where they happen.
County jails are sheriff- or county-run. Philadelphia Department of Prisons is the city system (Riverside, Curran-Fromhold). PADOC (SCI Phoenix, SCI Greene) is state prison. PPD district lockups are not PDP. This site currently has live roster pages for 4 of 67 counties (4 jail pages, 924 records tracked). The other 63 counties have a jail information page with lookup steps and contacts; until a roster feed is connected, the sheriff or detention center is the official source for who is in custody there.
Finding someone in a Pennsylvania jail
Philadelphia and the collars publish inmate information. Allegheny does too. We never merge PDP with Montgomery County. There is no single statewide jail roster. If you know the county, open its roster above and search by name or charge. If you only know the city of arrest, find which county the city is in first.
Courts of Common Pleas sit in the county. Philadelphia’s Criminal Justice Center is not Norristown (Montgomery). A Upper Darby case is Delaware County, not the city. The courthouse and the jail are often in different buildings. Confirm the facility name on the booking paperwork or with the attorney before you travel.
Bond, visits and money in Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania cash/surety and unsecured bonds appear. A New Jersey bondsman does not cover Philadelphia automatically. Philadelphia’s bail practice is its own political history — read current local rules. Bond amounts shown on a roster can change after the first court appearance. CurrentPrisonList does not post bail or accept payments.
CFCF / Riverside are not Montgomery County’s Norristown-area jail. Allegheny’s downtown Pittsburgh jail is not SCI Greene. Video vendors differ. Dress codes, video-visit providers and appointment times are set by each jail. Check the sheriff's website on the day of the visit.
Travel and common mistakes in Pennsylvania
PHL for Philadelphia and Delaware County. MDT for Dauphin. PIT for Allegheny. EWR and ABE serve other edges. New Jersey landings do not create a Camden visit on this Pennsylvania page. Take the jail address from the sheriff's website or from the contact section of the county page, not from a generic map search.
A common mistake: searching Philadelphia for a Delaware or Montgomery booking, or calling PADOC about a county jail. Neighboring states have their own state pages on this site.
