How Rhode Island jails are organized
Each state facility in Rhode Island runs its own jail, and each has its own page here. Rhode Island does not run Midwestern county sheriff jails. Providence, Cranston, Warwick, Pawtucket, and Newport are cities. Adult custody is the Rhode Island Department of Corrections Adult Correctional Institutions in Cranston (Intake Service Center, John J. Moran, Gloria McDonald, and related buildings). Providence is the state capital, but arrests are booked in the state facility where they happen.
RIDOC runs intake and sentenced facilities together at the ACI complex. Municipal lockups are overnight. There is no 39-municipality inmate table product. This site currently has live roster pages for 2 of 5 five historical counties (statewide ACI) (2 jail pages, 1,240 records tracked). The other 3 five historical counties (statewide ACI) have a jail information page with lookup steps and contacts; until a roster feed is connected, the sheriff or detention center is the official source for who is in custody there.
Finding someone in a Rhode Island jail
Inmate information is a RIDOC tool, not a county HTML roster. This state’s pages follow that. Do not expect a “Providence County jail roster” in the Ohio sense. If you know the state facility, open its roster above and search by name or charge. If you only know the city of arrest, find which state facility the city is in first.
Superior and district courts sit in Providence and other courthouses (Kent, Washington, Newport). A Newport arraignment can still mean Cranston ACI after intake. The courthouse and the jail are often in different buildings. Confirm the facility name on the booking paperwork or with the attorney before you travel.
Bond, visits and money in Rhode Island
Bail commissioners and Superior Court set terms. Massachusetts bondsmen do not automatically cover Rhode Island. Posting is tied to the court and RIDOC, not a county window. Bond amounts shown on a roster can change after the first court appearance. CurrentPrisonList does not post bail or accept payments.
Visits are at the Cranston complex unless RIDOC says otherwise. A Providence hotel is a city base, not the gate. Do not copy a Massachusetts HOC schedule. Dress codes, video-visit providers and appointment times are set by each jail. Check the sheriff's website on the day of the visit.
Travel and common mistakes in Rhode Island
PVD (T.F. Green in Warwick) is the airport. BOS is a Massachusetts landing. The ACI is a Cranston drive from downtown Providence, not the State House. Take the jail address from the sheriff's website or from the contact section of the state facility page, not from a generic map search.
A common mistake: searching a county-sheriff roster model, or driving to a Massachusetts house of correction because the family lives in Fall River. Neighboring states have their own state pages on this site.
