How Utah jails are organized

Each county in Utah runs its own jail, and each has its own page here. Salt Lake County is Salt Lake City, West Valley, and Sandy. Utah County is Provo-Orem. Davis and Weber (Ogden) are the north I-15 sheriffs. Washington County is St. George. Those five are different jails along one interstate. Salt Lake City is the state capital, but arrests are booked in the county where they happen.

Sheriffs run county jails. Utah DOC (Utah State Correctional Facility in Salt Lake Valley, Gunnison) is prison. SLCPD holding is not the Salt Lake County Metro Jail roster. This site currently has live roster pages for 4 of 29 counties (4 jail pages, 1,275 records tracked). The other 25 counties have a jail information page with lookup steps and contacts; until a roster feed is connected, the sheriff or detention center is the official source for who is in custody there.

Bond, visits and money in Utah

Utah uses commercial surety and cash. A Salt Lake bondsman may not post Utah County. First appearance follows local calendars. Bond amounts shown on a roster can change after the first court appearance. CurrentPrisonList does not post bail or accept payments.

Salt Lake County Metro Jail is not Utah County. The new state correctional facility in the valley is DOC, not the county jail. St. George is a southern drive, not a suburb. Dress codes, video-visit providers and appointment times are set by each jail. Check the sheriff's website on the day of the visit.

Travel and common mistakes in Utah

SLC serves Salt Lake, Davis, and Utah counties — still three rosters. SGU for St. George. I-15 looks like one city and is not one jail. Take the jail address from the sheriff's website or from the contact section of the county page, not from a generic map search.

A common mistake: treating Provo as Salt Lake County, or walking to the state prison complex for a county booking. Neighboring states have their own state pages on this site.
