How Wyoming jails are organized
Each county in Wyoming runs its own jail, and each has its own page here. Cheyenne is Laramie County (the name is not Laramie the city). Laramie the city is Albany County. Casper is Natrona. Gillette is Campbell. Jackson is Teton. Those five are the search volume in a huge map. Cheyenne is the state capital, but arrests are booked in the county where they happen.
Sheriffs run county jails. Wyoming DOC (Wyoming State Penitentiary in Rawlins, women’s in Lusk) is prison. Colorado’s northern counties are another state. A town lockup is overnight. This site currently has live roster pages for 1 of 23 counties (1 jail page, 70 records tracked). The other 22 counties have a jail information page with lookup steps and contacts; until a roster feed is connected, the sheriff or detention center is the official source for who is in custody there.
Finding someone in a Wyoming jail
Twenty-three counties make a small grid. Some publish inmate lists. Oil and gas counties can be volatile. Colorado’s Larimer County is not Laramie County, Wyoming. If you know the county, open its roster above and search by name or charge. If you only know the city of arrest, find which county the city is in first.
District courts sit in the county. Laramie County’s Cheyenne courts are not Albany County’s Laramie. Circuit courts handle many misdemeanors. The courthouse and the jail are often in different buildings. Confirm the facility name on the booking paperwork or with the attorney before you travel.
Bond, visits and money in Wyoming
A Colorado bondsman in Fort Collins does not cover Laramie County, Wyoming automatically. Distances favor professional bondsmen and wires. Bond amounts shown on a roster can change after the first court appearance. CurrentPrisonList does not post bail or accept payments.
Cheyenne’s jail is not the city of Laramie. Jackson’s Teton County jail is not a ski-town tourist desk. Rawlins is DOC. Winter I-80 is the plan. Dress codes, video-visit providers and appointment times are set by each jail. Check the sheriff's website on the day of the visit.
Travel and common mistakes in Wyoming
CYS for Laramie County. CPR for Natrona. JAC for Teton. DEN looks close to Cheyenne and is still a Colorado landing. I-25 does not merge them. Take the jail address from the sheriff's website or from the contact section of the county page, not from a generic map search.
A common mistake: confusing Laramie County (Cheyenne) with the city of Laramie (Albany County), or mixing a Colorado booking with a Wyoming roster. Neighboring states have their own state pages on this site.
