Tauragė County: how this area actually works
Low country along the Jūra river, forests toward the coast’s hinterland, and a quiet border geography. Klaipėda, Telšiai, Šiauliai, Kaunas, and Marijampolė. Russia’s Kaliningrad exclave touches the south-west. Tauragės apskritis is the name you will see on court stamps, road signs, and the heading of a local letter even when the English page you are reading says Tauragė County.
Small industry, agriculture, and border roads. Tauragė is the only real town. The county is overlooked in English guides. Kalėjimų tarnyba does not overlook a person because the county is small. Tauragė is the county town on the Jūra.
People heading for Tauragė still need Jurbarkas on the list: a Nemunas town on the southern edge. Šilalė is a small northern town of the county. The administrative centre is Tauragė. That city is where regional offices cluster; it is not automatically where a sentenced or remanded person is held.
Finding someone held in Tauragė County
Tauragė courts serve a small population. Cases still enter the national placement system. Do not assume an institution in Tauragė just because the arrest was here, and do not assume Pravieniškės just because it is famous. Ask Kalėjimų tarnyba or read the order. The Kaliningrad border is not a third option. The Lithuanian Prison Service (Kalėjimų tarnyba) does not publish a searchable inmate index. Guessing from news headlines or a shared surname will send you to the wrong gate.
A first arrest in Tauragė County can be followed by a transfer to another county if security category, sentence length, medical needs, or simple capacity require it. Lukiškės in central Vilnius is not the working prison it once was. Kalėjimų tarnyba uses campuses such as Pravieniškės, and the county of arrest is only the start of the paper. People heading for Tauragė still need Pagėgiai on the list: the town toward the Russian border and the Nemunas delta.

Treating the county as a rest stop on the Klaipėda–Kaunas road and never reading the town on the approval. If you are travelling from abroad, assume the visit is not a same-day add-on to a flight. Getting around Tauragė County
The road from Kaunas to the coast crosses this geography. It is a through-route and a local road at once. Rail is limited. Drive. Kaunas or Palanga. Both are plausible and neither is local.

Rural approaches to institutions are often poorly labelled for visitors who only followed a motorway sign into Tauragė. The Russian exclave of Kaliningrad is a neighbour. It is not part of the Lithuanian prison system.
