Skåne County: how this area actually works
Several tingsrätter divide the county, among them Malmö, Lund, Helsingborg, Ystad and Kristianstad. Appeals go to Göta hovrätt in Jönköping, a long way north for a family that thought everything southern happened in Malmö. The county is also where Danish relatives, Swedish relatives and people landing at Kastrup all converge with different identity documents. The governor’s office is not a prison switchboard. Neither is Copenhagen Police, if the case is Swedish.
Kriminalvården’s Skåne establishments include sites in the Malmö area and at Ystad, among others. They are not interchangeable, and a häkte is not an anstalt. Remand after an arrest in Malmö or Helsingborg may be local, and a long closed sentence may move to Kumla or another national anstalt. Open prisons used later are a third kind of visit. Get the establishment name. Families who tour Ystad’s detective-novel streets while the person is in a Malmö häkte have followed a novel, not a letter.
Trelleborg ferries and Helsingborg’s connection to Helsingør add more borders to an already cross-border county. None of those borders tells you where a prisoner is. Frivård supervision in Lund or Malmö is community probation. If that is the status, stop looking for a gate. If a transfer to another county is dated, a hotel in Malmö’s old town will not help. Recheck placement the week you cross the bridge, because classification does not wait for your itinerary.
Finding someone held in Skåne County

Danish authorities do not hold the Swedish roster you hoped was shared because the trains are shared. Bring the date of birth and case number. Press photos of police vans in Malmö are not updated when someone moves to an anstalt. The silence afterwards is normal. It is not a clue.
Decide which country you are travelling in for the visit, and which for the flight. A Copenhagen hotel and a Ystad establishment are a long local day, not a harbour stroll. Embassies can explain the Swedish channel. They cannot move a slot to match a cheap Øresund ticket. If the papers say häkte, prepare for stricter rules than an anstalt. Stay near the establishment if it is Ystad or Kristianstad, not automatically in Malmö. Add time for identification. Tourism in Lund’s cathedral quarter will not walk you to a gate.
