Satakunta: how this area actually works
Pori is the administrative centre. Rauma’s old town draws tourists and the wrong hotel bookings. District courts name a town on the summons. Appeals from this coast go to Turku Court of Appeal, not to a prison next door. The regional council cannot confirm custody. A festival office in Pori, in a jazz week or any other week, cannot either. The letter from RISE is the address.
Do not invent one Satakunta vankila from a map pin. Remand may serve the local court. A sentence may move to Turku’s region, to Uusimaa, or to a closed prison inland after classification. If the papers name Turun vankila’s side of the country, or Vantaa, or Riihimäki, leave Satakunta. If they name a local unit, do not continue to Helsinki because that is the prison you have heard of. Heard-of is not held-at.
The coast road looks simple and is slow in weather. Rauma and Pori are a real drive, not a tram. Probation in either town is community supervision. If that is the status, there is no gate. If a transfer is dated, a hotel between the two towns satisfies neither establishment. Recheck before you combine a Turku appeal with a Satakunta visit. They are neighbouring regions and still two plans.
Finding someone held in Satakunta
Confirm on rikosseuraamus.fi, with the lawyer, or with an approved contact. Pori police will not read a list. Bring identity details and the case number. Embassies explain Finnish custody. They are not notified when someone leaves the coast for an inland vankila. A local article about an arrest in Rauma goes quiet after a transfer. That quiet is not proof the person stayed.
Write the town and the establishment in one line. Foreign visitors should not treat Pori airport’s limited flights as the whole journey until the gate is known. If the person is in Pirkanmaa, Tampere is a different region. If the person is in Uusimaa, fly or rail there instead of forcing a west-coast base. Satakunta is not a halfway house between Turku and Tampere unless the letter says the gate is here.
Visits and family practicalities
Book visits through the named establishment. Approval is personal. This page has no hours. A coast-region timetable that names no vankila is useless. Check RISE’s live instructions, then match trains or the car. A slot copied from a Turku prison will not open a door in Pori.
Bring a passport if you are foreign. Children need the establishment’s permission and any consent. Finnish is the working language. Ask for an interpreter in advance. Read the property sheet for that vankila. Do not pack from a generic Finnish prison page, and do not pack for a Rauma old-town weekend if the gate is elsewhere. Phones are refused in ordinary, expensive ways.
Getting around Satakunta
Pori has a small airport. Many visitors use Tampere or Turku and finish by road or rail. Rauma is not on the same simple pattern as Pori’s station. Use RISE’s directions. A pin on Pori’s river or Rauma’s wooden town is a tourist pin. Say the establishment’s name to any driver. Winter roads inland toward Pirkanmaa need more time than a summer estimate.
Do not stack a Turku appeal, a Rauma hotel and a Pori visit into one afternoon. Stay in the establishment’s town. Add identification time. If the person has been moved to Kanta-Häme or Uusimaa, leave the coast early. The jazz festival, the old town and the port are not landmarks the gate staff need.
