HMP/YOI Downview

Downview is the women’s prison on Sutton Lane, a short but important distinction from High Down’s men’s gate on the same ridge. If the court said “she’s gone to Sutton,” this is the establishment you mean — not Bronzefield in Ashford, which is a different contractor and a different town.

Women and young women, not the men’s trainer next door

HMP/YOI Downview holds women, including a YOI function, at Sutton Lane, SM2 5PD. It is HMPPS-run. Family days and child-centred visits matter more here than at a men’s local; they are still booked, not casual.

Bronzefield (Sodexo, Ashford, Surrey) is the other large women’s prison on the M25 fringe. Mixing the two wastes a journey.

Locator

Find a prisoner on GOV.UK. Women’s estate moves include Peterborough, Bronzefield, Send, Eastwood Park, Styal, New Hall and Foston Hall. “Sutton” on a WhatsApp is not a confirmation.

Visits

GOV.UK Downview page plus the national booking service. Follow women’s-estate ID and child rules. If you are bringing a child, read the official page twice.

Sutton Lane

Sutton station, then bus or taxi to Sutton Lane. High Down’s lane is not Downview’s gate. Say the prison name to the driver.
