West Pomerania: how this area actually works
Szczecin is the capital, close to the German border and far from Koszalin by the standard of a same-day visit. Świnoujście is a port and a border crossing, not a default prison. Courts in Szczecin are not the gate. The voivodeship office cannot confirm a detainee. A cruise desk cannot either. The English word Pomerania, without West, sends people to Gdańsk.
Papers name an areszt or a zakład karny. It may be local or, after classification, in another voivodeship. If they name Gdańsk, switch to that Pomerania. If they name Poznań, that is Greater Poland. If they name a German prison, you are in another country. Do not invent one Szczecin jail from a harbour pin. Remand and sentenced rules differ. Women’s placement is on the letter, not in a guess. Add border slack and identification time. A cheaper German hotel is a false economy when the slot is in Szczecin or Koszalin.
Border commuting makes the systems feel shared. They are not. Probation in Szczecin is not a cell in Germany and not a cell in Koszalin. If the person has been moved, leave the waterfront. Recheck. Summer coast traffic between the two Polish cities breaks plans that looked short at midnight. Szczecin is in Poland. A German station across the border is not the gate and not the information desk. Koszalin is a different Polish city in the same voivodeship, not a Szczecin suburb.
Finding someone held in West Pomerania
Confirm through the lawyer or the SW route. Police will not read a list. Bring the date of birth and case number. Embassies need Poland. A German authority is the wrong office unless the case is actually German. A news item from Świnoujście goes stale.
Write Szczecin, Koszalin, or the real unit. Foreign visitors should choose Szczecin Airport, a Berlin connection, or Gdańsk only after the town is known. If the person is in Lubusz, that is the inland border voivodeship, another page. West Pomerania is correct only when the papers say so. Świnoujście is a port and a crossing. Use it only if the directions do. Otherwise it is how people leave the country by accident.
Visits and family practicalities
Book Polish widzenia the Polish way. No hours are printed here. A German timetable does not apply. Check the live SW page for the named unit.
Bring a passport. Children need permission and consent. Polish is the working language. Ask for an interpreter. German in the family does not replace that request. Read the property sheet. A ferry-day bag is the wrong bag. Berlin connections are common and still end in a Polish rulebook if the custody is Polish. Book widzenia the SW way, not a German visiting habit.
Getting around West Pomerania
Szczecin has an airport and rail links toward Poznań and toward the coast. Koszalin is not a tram. Świnoujście often means a specific approach the official directions will describe if you need it. Use those directions. A pin on the harbour or the German station is not the entrance.
Add identification time and border slack. Stay in the establishment’s town. A Gdańsk plan and a Szczecin plan are two coasts. If the person is not in this voivodeship, do not remain because the ferry was convenient. Gdańsk is the other Pomerania. Poznań is Greater Poland. If the papers name those cities, leave this coast.
