Lisbon district prisons: Linhó, Monsanto, and DGRSP visits

Lisbon district covers the capital and a wide ring that includes Sintra, Cascais, Loures, and Amadora. Linhó and Monsanto are different establishments. DGRSP runs them. There is no public list of names.

Lisbon: how this area actually works

Lisbon is both the national capital and the district capital, which is why families treat every prison letter as a city-centre address. It is not. Linhó is in Sintra. Monsanto is a different establishment again. Cascais, Oeiras, Loures, Vila Franca de Xira, and Mafra are other municipalities in the same district. Police custody is not a visit. DGRSP may keep someone in one of these houses or move them to another district after classification. The justice site will not search a surname. Ask the lawyer which establishment is current before you book a hotel in Baixa. The castle and the river ferries are not gates.

Families mix Linhó with Monsanto because both sit in the Lisbon orbit. They are not the same gate and not the same bus. A permission for one does not open the other. Porto’s establishment, recorded as North, is another district entirely. Women and younger people may be placed outside the municipality of arrest. This page is not a roll of prisoners. If the papers name a Porto address, use the Porto district guide. Confirm the week of travel. A release to an address in Sintra or Cascais ends the prison visit. Setúbal, across the river, is a different district too.

Visits need authorisation and identification. This guide copies no timetable. The bridges and the Sintra road both make lateness ordinary, and the gate does not negotiate it. Money and parcels follow the rules of that establishment. If the person moves from Linhó to Monsanto, or the other way, start again. Use the address on the letter. A postcard of Belém will not get you through the door, and a hotel in Cascais is useless when the establishment is in Sintra or on the Monsanto side. Read the street before you leave the station. Amadora does not share that desk. Confirm the town before you pay today.

Finding someone held in Lisbon

Confirm whether the papers say Linhó or Monsanto. Lisbon district is not Porto and not Setúbal. There is no public name search.

Sintra is not the Baixa. Match the municipality before you book a city-centre hotel.

Visits and family practicalities

Follow DGRSP notices for the named establishment. Bring identification. This page lists no hours.

A Linhó permission does not open Monsanto. Lawyers use their own route. If the slot is cancelled, only the establishment can rebook it.

Getting around Lisbon

Lisbon has several stations. Sintra trains leave from Rossio and Oriente connections are for the north. The airports are in the district. The establishment is not Praça do Comércio. Use the official directions for Linhó or for Monsanto, not a castle pin.

Drivers face the 25 de Abril bridge, the Vasco da Gama, and the IC19 toward Sintra. A hotel in Baixa is the wrong base when the gate is in Sintra, and a Cascais seafront hotel fails the same way. Leave margin for rush hour. Read the municipality twice before you pay, and do not follow a tram route to the gate. Mafra’s palace is not the visit. Leave the afternoon clear of Belém, and keep the permission with the postcode before evening traffic. Loures is not Sintra. Do not sleep in Setúbal because the bridge looks short today. The two Lisbon houses are not one door. Leave a spare hour on the ring. Vila Franca de Xira is not Sintra. Read the parish again today. Oeiras is not Mafra today.
