Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur: how this area actually works
Les Baumettes has been rebuilt in phases. Officers and families now mean the newer Baumettes campus in the southern districts of Marseille, still a local maison d'arrêt, still not a beach tram from the Vieux-Port. Luynes, near Aix-en-Provence, is a different house in the Bouches-du-Rhône. Toulon-La Farlède serves the Var coast. Grasse and Nice split the Alpes-Maritimes, a TER world away from Marseille. Avignon-Le Pontet is the Vaucluse name, closer to the Rhône than to the Corniche. Heat in July is a visit fact on the southern bus routes. Italian relatives from Ventimiglia need a French permis if the person is held in Nice or Grasse.
A Marseille remand is not a life sentence at Baumettes. The DAP moves people to Luynes, to Toulon, to Grasse, or out of PACA, including exchanges with Corsica the other way. Prévenus may need the juge d'instruction in Marseille, Aix, Toulon or Nice. Condamnés need the permis for that établissement. The new buildings did not create a public roll. GENESIS is still internal. A news story about the quartier nord is not a cell location. Toulon, Grasse and Avignon are not the Vieux-Port. Aix is inland from the old port.
This page groups prisons recorded as Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. It does not list people at Baumettes, Luynes, Grasse or Avignon. Read justice.gouv.fr and the house notice. Do not copy a Paris Fleury routine onto a Marseille bus, and do not treat Nice and Marseille as one afternoon. The TER between them is a region-length trip. Luynes, Toulon-La Farlede, Grasse and Avignon-Le Pontet are four more addresses besides Baumettes. Nice and the Alpes-Maritimes are a different day from the Vieux-Port. Luynes, near Aix, is not a beach bus out of southern Marseille.
Finding someone held in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur
PACA publishes no list of people at Les Baumettes, Luynes, Toulon-La Farlède, Grasse or Avignon-Le Pontet. Ask the lawyer or the greffe. justice.gouv.fr does not show names. GENESIS is closed. A Marseille court day may still be police custody. Do not phone Baumettes and expect a name. A Ventimiglia rumour is not a French placement. Baumettes and Luynes will not confirm a stranger's name. Grasse will not either. Wait for the Aix or Marseille greffe. Then go only if it matches.
Baumettes is not Luynes, and Nice is not Marseille. Grasse is not Toulon. If the letter names Borgo or Ajaccio, you are on Corsica. If it names Seysses or Villeneuve-lès-Maguelone, you are in Occitanie. The permis must match the house before you book a flight into Marseille-Provence or Nice. Aix is not the Vieux-Port, and Avignon TGV is often the wrong station. Toulon is a coastal rail, not Saint-Charles. Grasse is the hills above Cannes, not the Marseille station. Check it.
Visits and family practicalities
The permis is house-specific. Remand can require the juge d'instruction in Marseille, Aix or Nice. Baumettes and Luynes do not share a timetable, and this guide does not invent one. Read the notice before you leave Saint-Charles or the airport.
Bring the identification required. Phones stay outside. July heat on the southern bus is not an excuse the parloir will accept if you are late. If the person moved from Baumettes to Luynes or to Toulon, the old permit fails. Re-check that morning.
Getting around Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur
Marseille-Provence Airport and Saint-Charles station are the west of the région. Baumettes is a southern Marseille bus through districts that are not the Vieux-Port. Aix and Luynes are an inland trip. Toulon is a coastal rail. Nice and Grasse are the eastern TER and a different airport. Avignon TGV is often the wrong station for Le Pontet. Use the address on the notice.
Drivers on the A7 and A8 should separate autoroute time from the last urban mile. Parking is poor. Italian plates do not change the permis. Corsica ferries from Marseille or Toulon are irrelevant unless the letter has moved the person to the island. Do not finish at the Mucem or on the Promenade des Anglais.
