Trentino-Alto Adige: how this area actually works
Trento sits in the Adige valley beneath the Dolomites. Bolzano, also called Bozen, is the capital of the autonomous province of South Tyrol and is not a suburb of Trento. German and Italian appear on street signs, and a family that follows only one language can miss the municipality on the papers. Police custody is not the colloquio. DAP assigns an istituto that may be in either province or, after classification, farther south. giustizia.it will not search a surname. Ask the lawyer which address is current before you book a room in a mountain village. The Brenner line is a border, not a visiting room.
Families fold this region into Veneto because Verona is the nearest large court city on the plain. A Veneto permission does not open a Trentino gate, and an Austrian prison beyond the Brenner is a different state. Women and young people may be placed outside the valley. This page is not a roll of detenuti. If the papers name Verona or Venice, use the Veneto guide. If they name Innsbruck, you have left DAP. Confirm the week of travel. A release to an address in Merano or Rovereto ends the prison visit. The two autonomous provinces do not share a desk.
Colloqui need authorisation and identification. This guide copies no orario. Mountain roads close for weather, and the gate does not hold a slot for snow. Money and parcels follow DAP rules for that istituto. If the person moves to the plain, start again. Trento and Bolzano do not share a visiting room. Use the address on the letter, including the German name if that is how the street is signed. A postcard of the Dolomites will not get you through the door. Merano and Rovereto do not share a desk with Trento or Bolzano. Confirm the street on the letter before you leave the station today.
Finding someone held in Trentino-Alto Adige
Confirm the istituto and whether the town is Trento or Bolzano. There is no public name search on giustizia.it.
South Tyrol is not Austria, and Trentino is not Veneto. Match the letterhead before you book the Brenner train.
Visits and family practicalities
Follow giustizia.it for the named istituto. Bring identification. This page lists no hours.
A Trento permission does not open Bolzano. Lawyers use their own route. If the road is closed, only the istituto can move the slot.
Getting around Trentino-Alto Adige
Trento and Bolzano stations sit on the Verona–Brenner line. The airports families actually use are Verona, Innsbruck, and sometimes Venice. The istituto approach is the official one, not a ski-bus stop. Merano and Rovereto have their own stations.
Drivers use the A22. A hotel in Cortina or Canazei is the wrong base unless the papers name that valley. Innsbruck is abroad. Leave margin for winter closures and summer coaches. Read the municipality twice, in both languages if the sign does, and do not follow a cable-car map to the gate. Bolzano is not Trento. Leave the afternoon clear of the ski slopes, and keep the permission with the postcode before evening traffic on the autostrada. Ortisei and the Sella passes are not the gate. A hotel in Madonna di Campiglio fails when the papers name Trento. Do not sleep in Verona because the train looks easy. Keep a spare hour for snow on the A22, and read the province twice before you pay today. The German street name is part of the address when the sign uses it.
