Bremen: how this area actually works
Oslebshausen, in the north of the city of Bremen, is where families go when a Bremen court has sent someone into the Land's Justizvollzug. It is a small system next to Hamburg's and Lower Saxony's much larger estates, which is why relatives book the wrong city. Bremerhaven has its own court life at the mouth of the Weser and a road or rail trip south to the city. The Land government sits in Bremen, not in a federal prison ministry. A Hanseatic label does not make this Hamburg. Fuhlsbüttel, Billwerder and Celle are other Länder.
Because the estate is small, specialist, women's, youth or long high-security placements often leave Bremen under agreements with another Land. That move is a justice decision, not a family booking. Remand can begin in Oslebshausen and still end in Lower Saxony or Hamburg. Untersuchungshaft restrictions come from the Bremen court or prosecutor. Do not assume a visiting rule you saw on a Hamburg page applies in Oslebshausen. The two city-states publish their own notices. A Bremerhaven court date is not a Hamburg slot and not a Celle one. Read the Freie Hansestadt's own notice.
This page groups prisons recorded as Bremen. It does not list who is held in Oslebshausen. A harbour arrest is not automatically a prison sentence, and police custody at the port is not the JVA. If the letter names a house in Hanover, Oldenburg or Hamburg, follow that letter. Cross-reading Lower Saxony's map because the motorway is continuous will put you at the wrong gate. Oslebshausen is in the city of Bremen, north of the centre, not at the port terminal in Bremerhaven. Specialist moves to Lower Saxony are written transfers, not guesses from a motorway map.
Finding someone held in Bremen
Bremen does not publish an inmate roll for Oslebshausen or for anyone held on a Bremen warrant. Ask the Freie Hansestadt's Justizvollzug, in the form it specifies. Hamburg's Auskunft service will not answer a Bremen file, and Lower Saxony's will not either, unless the person has actually been transferred and you are now asking about that Land's house. The defence lawyer in Bremen or Bremerhaven is the usual first source. Do not ring the gate and ask for a name check.
Use the prisoner number once you have it. Oslebshausen is not JVA Hamburg and not JVA Celle. A weekend remand may still be in police cells. If a later letter says Sehnde, Rosdorf or Fuhlsbüttel, the Bremen page is no longer the visit. Paid websites that offer a German national search are not the Hanseatic procedure. If the letter names Celle, Rosdorf or Fuhlsbüttel, leave this city-state page. Oslebshausen stays the Bremen address until that letter arrives. The port of Bremerhaven is not the JVA.
Visits and family practicalities
Book only with the permission Oslebshausen, or the receiving Land, actually issued. Remand visits can need the court. This guide does not invent a clock time for Bremen or Bremerhaven. Read the city's current notice before you travel from the port or from Hanover.
Identification is required, and phones stay outside. A Hamburg approval will not open the Bremen gate. If the person has moved to Lower Saxony, the Oslebshausen slot is void. Re-check the Anstalt the morning you leave Bremerhaven or the Hauptbahnhof.
Getting around Bremen
Bremen Airport and Bremen Hauptbahnhof are the city arrivals. Tram and bus reach Oslebshausen; it is not the station door. Bremerhaven families come south by regional train or the A27. Do not stop at Hamburg Hauptbahnhof because the ICE was convenient.
Parking in Oslebshausen's residential streets is limited. The Weser weather is a planning fact, not a slogan. Use the official street address. If the confirmed house is in Lower Saxony, change the ticket rather than hoping the cities share a visitors' room.
