Flevoland: how this area actually works
The province is young land: the Noordoostpolder around Emmeloord, eastern Flevoland around Lelystad and Dronten, and southern Flevoland around Almere and Zeewolde. Urk keeps its own harbour town on the western edge. PI Almere is a purpose-built penitentiary institution in that southern belt. It holds adult men under DJI and receives people whose first night was nowhere near the polder, including detainees from Amsterdam courts when capacity in the Randstad is assigned here. Almere is not PI Rotterdam and not PI Vught. The letter has to say Almere before the visit is an Almere visit.
Lelystad’s courts and provincial offices are a different address from the Almere PI. Families who book a hotel by Lelystad’s waterfront because it is the capital can add an unnecessary leg. Police cells in any of these towns are not the PI. The Bijlmer’s closed jail in Amsterdam is a memory, not a current alternative you can choose. DJI assigns the house. dji.nl explains bezoek and will not search a name for you. Probation and community sentences, if the court imposed them, are served outside the wall. Urk’s harbour and Dronten’s polder villages are not substitute addresses.
Bezoek at PI Almere follows the institution’s registration rules. Newer sites still change practical details when staffing shifts, so a screenshot from a previous visit is a poor guide. Identification is checked. The polder roads look fast on a map and clog at the Hollandse Brug when Amsterdam commuters turn around. International relatives landing at Schiphol are close in kilometres and still late if they have no approval. Women and high-security placements may be in another PI entirely. Read the establishment name twice. Lelystad’s provincial offices will not add a visitor to a list held in Almere.
Finding someone held in Flevoland
Ask DJI or the lawyer whether the person is at PI Almere. Flevoland on this page matches prisons recorded in Flevoland, including that institution. It does not list detainees.
An Amsterdam arrest often leads families here and just as often leads them somewhere else. Wait for the PI name. Police custody overnight is not the same building. Biddinghuizen and Zeewolde are polder towns people drive through, not visiting addresses, unless the letter prints them. Lelystad’s polder marker is a viewpoint, not a gate.
Visits and family practicalities
Book bezoek through the PI Almere instructions on dji.nl once placement is confirmed. Bring identification. This site does not copy the session grid.
A visit approved at Almere is useless at Rotterdam or Vught. If the person transfers, the approval process starts again at the new house. Lawyers use their own desk.
Getting around Flevoland
Almere Centrum and Almere Buiten connect to Amsterdam Centraal by frequent trains. Lelystad has its own station on the line toward Zwolle. Local buses cover the last stretch to the PI. Use the DJI directions for the entrance.
Schiphol is the usual airport, then a train toward Almere. Drivers use the A6. Emmeloord and Urk are a longer cross-polder drive if you are collecting relatives first. Do not treat Lelystad Airport’s cargo sheds as a passenger plan unless you already hold a flight there. If you are collecting someone in Emmeloord first, add the cross-polder drive before you promise a visit time. The Hollandse Brug queue is the usual reason Almere slots are missed.
