Catalonia prisons: Brians, Generalitat justice, and family visits

Catalonia runs its own prisons through the Generalitat’s justice department, capital Barcelona. Brians is the centre families mean. SGIP’s Madrid pages do not book these visits. There is no public name list.

Catalonia: how this area actually works

Barcelona is the capital and the court city that feeds the Brians complex at Sant Joan Despí, along with other Catalan centres. Girona, Tarragona, and Lleida are the other provincial capitals. The Departament de Justícia is the administration. Secretaría General de Instituciones Penitenciarias in Madrid is not. Families who open institucionpenitenciaria.es for a Brians visit are in the wrong system, just as families who open the Generalitat site for Soto del Real are in the wrong system. justicia.gencat.cat is the Catalan route. It will not search a surname. Ask the lawyer which centre, including whether the papers say Brians 1 or Brians 2, because those are separate gates.

The community’s language is Catalan, and files may be in Catalan or Spanish. A French relative coming from Perpignan is still inside a Catalan process if the centre is Catalan, not a French maison d’arrêt. The Balearic Islands and Valencia are neighbouring coasts with SGIP, not extensions of the Generalitat’s prisons. Do not assume a Palma or Valencia centro will accept a Catalan permission. Women and young people have their own centres in the Catalan estate. This page matches prisons recorded as Catalonia. It does not list who is in any mòdul. Transfers to a state centro elsewhere in Spain are a change of administration and a new request.

Comunicacions follow Catalan rules on the Generalitat site. This guide does not copy Madrid timetables and does not copy Catalan ones either, because they change. Identification is checked. Authorisation is per centre. A Brians slot will not open Quatre Camins. If the person moves, start again. Money and parcels follow the Catalan instructions you read officially. If the person is released to an address in Hospitalet or Girona, confirm release before you keep a hotel on the Rambla. The parliament and the Sagrada Família are not visiting entrances. Read the comarca.

Finding someone held in Catalonia

Confirm the centre on justicia.gencat.cat routes or through the lawyer. Catalonia matches prisons recorded in this community, including Brians. It is not a roster.

Brians 1 and Brians 2 are different centres. SGIP Madrid centres are a different administration. The word Spain on a passport does not collapse them.

Visits and family practicalities

Use the Generalitat justice pages for a Catalan centre. Do not submit an SGIP Madrid request for Brians. This guide prints no hours.

Bring the identification requested. A family visit and a lawyer visit are different. If the centre changes, the permission ends. Children follow the current rule on the official page.

Getting around Catalonia

Barcelona Sants and Passeig de Gràcia are the rail hubs. Brians is in Sant Joan Despí, a metro or commuter trip then a local bus or taxi, not a walk from the beach. Girona, Tarragona, and Lleida have AVE or regional links. Follow the official last kilometre.

Barcelona airport is the main flight. Girona and Reus airports add options and also add a long transfer if the centre is in Baix Llobregat. Drivers use the AP-7 and the rondes, which jam. A hotel on the Rambla is the wrong base for a Sant Joan gate. Read the municipality. Sitges and Cadaqués are not centres. Figueres, Reus, and Igualada are not Brians. Read the comarca before you leave Sants, and do not follow a beach pin. Igualada and Figueres are not Brians. Leave time on the rondes, and do not stay on the Rambla if the papers say Sant Joan Despí or another comarca entirely.

Questions families actually ask

Is Brians under SGIP?
No. Brians is part of Catalonia’s prison system, run by the Generalitat. SGIP handles state centros such as those in the Community of Madrid.
Can I search Catalan inmates online?
No. Neither the Generalitat nor SGIP publishes a public name list. The lawyer or the centre confirms placement.
Are Brians 1 and Brians 2 the same gate?
No. They are separate centres in the Brians complex. Match the exact name on the papers.
