Region of Murcia prisons: SGIP centros and family visitas

The Region of Murcia is a single-province community on the southeast coast, capital Murcia, with Cartagena as the port. SGIP runs the centros. It does not publish names.

Region of Murcia: how this area actually works

Murcia city is the capital and the main court centre. Cartagena, Lorca, and the Mar Menor towns make up the rest of a community that is easy to confuse with Alicante, which is in the Valencian Community next door. SGIP centros serve Murcia as state establishments. The regional government does not keep a public roll. A person arrested in Cartagena may be placed in a centre serving the region or moved elsewhere after classification. institucionpenitenciaria.es will not search a surname. Ask the lawyer which centro before you book a hotel on the cathedral square or on the port walls. The two cities are not one gate.

Andalusia’s Almería lies west and the Valencian Community lies north. Both are different autonomous communities. Almería’s centros are SGIP too, and still not this address. Valencia’s centros are also SGIP and still not a Murcia permission. Catalonia is farther up the coast and a different administration entirely. Women and young people may be held outside the region. This page is the community. It does not list internos. Holiday towns on the Mar Menor are not centros. A British or German relative arriving for the sea still needs Spanish authorisation if the person is in a Spanish centre.

Comunicaciones require identification and prior approval. This guide copies no hours. Summer heat and August traffic on the coast are how slots are missed. Money and parcels follow SGIP rules. If the person transfers to a Valencian or Andalusian centre, the Murcia plan ends. If the person is released to an address in Lorca or Molina de Segura, confirm release. The regional assembly cannot add a visitor. Read the postcode, and do not treat Cartagena’s naval history as a map of the gate. Lorca is not Cartagena or the Mar Menor.

Finding someone held in Region of Murcia

Confirm the centro with SGIP or the lawyer. The Region of Murcia is not the Valencian Community and not Andalusia. There is no public inmate search.

Murcia city and Cartagena are different. A coastal resort is not the establishment. Match the papers before you land.

Visits and family practicalities

Follow institucionpenitenciaria.es for the named centro. Bring DNI or passport. This page lists no timetable.

Permissions do not transfer to Alicante or Almería. If the person moves, rebook. Lawyers use their own route. A family slot is not a public gallery.

Getting around Region of Murcia

Murcia del Carmen is the city station. Cartagena has its own. The airport at Corvera serves the region. Alicante airport is sometimes used and then requires a long transfer if the centro is in Murcia. Use official directions for the last kilometres.

Drivers use the A-7 and the A-30. August traffic toward the Mar Menor is severe. A hotel in La Manga is the wrong base unless the postcode is there. Lorca is inland. Leave margin, and keep Murcia distinct from Alicante on every booking. Lorca, Yecla, and Águilas are not the capital. A Mar Menor hotel fails when the centro is inland. Yecla and Águilas are not Murcia. An Alicante booking is another community. Leave the afternoon free. Cartagena’s port is not the inland centro, and an Alicante hotel is another community entirely. Read the postcode before you land, and do not treat Cartagena’s walls or La Manga as the centro. Lorca is inland. Leave the whole afternoon if the papers name a town away from the coast, and do not confuse Murcia with Alicante or Cartagena at the port.
